briar against bubblegum youth

art of all kinds. one post a day, every day. music, visual art, writing. whatever takes my fancy. and it's all in the name of enhancing the artistic experience of myself and the lives of others living in a miley cyrus and rihanna saturated world - that dreaded bubblegum youth.

High Country Weather

Alone we are born
And die alone
Yet see the red-gold cirrus
over snow-mountain shine.

Upon the upland road
Ride easy, stranger
Surrender to the sky
Your heart of anger.

-James K Baxter

James K Baxter is one of my favourite New Zealand poets. I picked this one partly because it’s short, and therefore doesn’t take up epic amounts of blog page-space. I also memorised it for use in exam quoting. But more importantly, I do love it, as well.

Other particular favourites of mine in his bank of work include Thoughts of a Remuera Housewife and Ballad of Calvary Street. I’m sure you can find them online somewhere, if you’re interested.
